Columbus Indiana Marathi Shala is a nonprofit, community-based, language school run entirely by dedicated volunteers.

Our goal is to help children learn the Marathi language and culture in a meaningful, joyful, and age-appropriate way.

The Shala follows a curriculum tailored for children growing up in the U.S., focused on developing Marathi language skills across listening, speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension.

Developed by the Bruhan Maharashtra Mandal (BMM) of North America in 2009, the curriculum is regularly updated to support students’ evolving needs.

Columbus Indiana Marathi Shala is part of Bruhan Maharashtra Mandal (BMM), North America - Marathi Shala initiative, a long running effort that supports Marathi language education across North America and beyond.

The Shala is affiliated with Columbus Ganesh Mandal (CGM) and supported by Sri Ganesh Mandir (SGM), Columbus IN. Both CGM and SGM are registered 501 (c) (3) non-profit organizations.
Join Columbus Indiana Marathi Shala
The Shala follows the BCSC calendar (August–May), with holidays aligned to the BCSC schedule and Marathi festival occurances based on Drik Panchang (Columbus, IN coordinates).
The Shala offers a hybrid format to support consistent learning throughout the year:

In-person classes on Sundays for 1.5 hours

Online sessions twice a week for 15–20 minutes each
As a volunteer-run organization, we rely on individuals who can help children explore and embrace Marathi. Whether you can spare just 1-2 hours a week or on a Sunday, online or in-person, your time makes a meaningful impact.
